SMALL OIL SKIMMERS

Oil skimmers model portable belt skimmer, tube skimmer and disc skimmer. The easy way to separate or skim oil from cutting fluid, washing liquid and other process water. The relationship between oil and water is governed by two well-known scientific principles.

Density

Most oils are lighter (have a lower density) than water. Without stirring, oil will separate from the water and flow up to the surface.

Surface Tension and Affinity

The oil binds more strongly to itself and other materials than to water. Oil is lighter than water so it rises to the surface. Liquid oil adheres better than water to materials so it can be picked up by passing a tape, hose or disc through the surface. The oil attaches to the material and is removed while the water is draining off. Skimming is a simple, reliable and effective method to remove oil from water.

Although the individual designs vary widely, all oil skimming equipment uses the difference in density and surface tension. Skimming alone can often provide the desired level of purity of the process water.
